Day One: The Garbolino-backed festival kicks off with some healthy weights.
A total of 59 anglers have descended on White Acres match waters for this year’s Garbolino Winter Festival.
Fishing the complex’s Pollawyn, Jennys, Trelawney, Pollawyn, Sycamore and Twin Oaks pools, some top names are taking part in a competition that should prove much better than last year’s frozen scenes.
The competition is broken into five section, A though to E, with the action on the first day of the competition showing real promise for a memorable festival.
A section, Pollawyn
On Day One A Section anglers took on Pollawyn, with Callum Dicks taking the win from peg 31. Callum caught roach on casters and bream on groundbait and worm for a total weight of 46lb 3oz.
In second was Simon Poynter who weighed in 42lb 13oz catching at 5meters and down the edge on casters and maggot from peg 13. Trevor Vernalls took third, using the short and the long pole shallow with casters and maggots from peg 30 for a weight of 23lb 4oz.
A close competition on Jenny’s saw the 34lb 12oz posted by Tony Morton take the win. Tony fished the pole at 11 meters with maggot from peg 16 to amass his bag.
Second went to Paul Yates on peg 8 who caught on the long pole with corn for 29lb 5oz. Derek Hammond was third with 21lb 12oz taken on chopped worm and groundbait on the pole.

C Section Trelawney
Winner in the section on day one was Rob Fuller. Rob weighed in 31lb 9oz, catching at 13 meters on the pole from peg 10 with groundbait and maggot.
A weight of 30lb 1oz gave Nathan second from peg 9 using maggot. While third place went to Adam Wakelin, with 29lb 12oz caught on the short pole with casters from peg 15.

D Section Sycamore/Pollawyn
Steve Hemmingray showed his class on Pollawyn from peg 22, weighing in a mixed bag of roach, perch and skimmers for 39lb 7oz, all caught on casters.
Second with 33lb 10oz was Jon Arthur on peg 19. Jon caught mainly barbel on maggot and casters. Steve Mayo on peg 24 was third, after catching on caster short and down the edge and on the long pole with groundbait for a total weight of 32lb 12oz. The best weight on Sycamore was 26lb 8oz taken by Skip Mccabe on peg 7, Skip caught on the long pole with casters and groundbait.
