More Maver 'Match This' Qualifying results, this time from Larford Lakes and The Oakes.
The Oakes Fishing Lakes, 24th July, 2011
Forty five anglers turned out for this latest Maver "Match This" qualifier event at The Oakes Fishing Lakes, Thirsk, on Cedar Lake. Conditions started off quite cold, but finished with bright sunshine.
Marc Rodger (Garbolino Osset) secured his place in the Grand Final fishing with a ticket transferred from Tony Booth, who unfortunately, could not make the qualifier himself. Opting to fish meat over hemp in shallow water at 14 metres and meat down the inside, Marc took F1's and carp to 10lbs to weigh in a final 93-07-00. As well as qualifying for the £50,000 main event, Marc's winning bag also sees him qualify for the Maver British Pole Championships taking place on 14th August - a fantastic opportunity to familiarise himself further with Larford Lakes.
Second place on the day went to Lee Thornton (Bag 'Em Baits), who drew peg 65. Lee had to chop and change both methods and baits used to keep the fish coming to the net throughout the day, with the fish not overly responding to any one method. Lee caught on both the method feeder fished over to the far bank using a variety of hookbaits as well pole fished maggot, caster, meat and pellet to name just a few at 14.5 metres to take carp upto 8lbs and plenty F1's averaging 2-3lbs. Larford Lakes, 23rd July, 2011
The campaigns best turn out saw ninety two anglers attend the Saturday morning draw at Larford Lakes for this latest Maver "Match This" qualifier event. Conditions on the day were ideal with mild, overcast conditions with a light, but changeable, breeze.
Winner on the day was Maver rod, and venue expert, Andy Kinder. Andy drew peg 40 on the Match Lake. Starting on the short pole and fishing shallow, things got off to a slow start with the opening couple of hours providing very little sport. However, Andy managed to find the fish tight against the island with a small method feeder using a mini boilie hookbait to take skimmer bream, F1s and carp to around 10lbs for a match winning 190-05-00. Andy will now fish in the £50,000 Grand Final on August 20th.
Second place on the day went to Yorkshire Bait's Perry Stone, who drew peg 79 at the opposite end of the Match Lake. Opting to fish both corn and pellet down the inside right from the beginning, Perry was straight into carp and F1s for a fantastic 180-13-00, earning his place in the £5,000 runner's-up final on the Arena Lake.
Third on the day, and narrowly missing out on his chance to fish one of the finals was Craig Elkin (Fox Match). Fishing from peg 77 on the Match Lake, Craig opted for a worm hookbait fished over the top of groundbait down the inside to take mainly carp and F1s for a weight of 171-07-00.
