Belgium Win The Euros

England finish fifth after better second day.
Belgium have won the European Championship with 56 points, beating favourites Italy by a 1.5-point margin. Hungary ended up in third place, with 58 points. England enjoyed a better second day, ending the competition with 74 points, and pulling back to fifth place overall.

England co manager Mark Addy commented: “As a team, I feel we have fished a far better match today. We were able to put right some of the mistakes that we made yesterday, spending most of the match targeting better stamp fish, rather than wasting time fishing for bleak that didn’t weigh nearly as much as we thought they would.

“We also had two better draws in D and E sections, where we struggled yesterday. The key tactic was fishing the long pole feeding balls of groundbait laced with casters and dead maggots, and fishing a big hook bait over the top. This helped sort out the better stamp of fish.”

In the individual stakes, former World Champion Will Raison won his section on the second day, but none of the English anglers managed a place on the podium.
