Bennett Makes The Final!

Pete Bennett wins Packington qualifier.

Banbury Gunsmiths rod Pete Bennett won Saturday's Maver 'Match This' qualifier at Packington Fishery, with an 84-11-0 net of F1 carp. Pete, 38, drew Peg 17 on Little Gearys and fished hard pellet shallow to finish the match just 1lb 1oz in front of second placed Richie Hull.

The third qualifier event of the 2013 Mega 'Match This' campaign was attended by 74 anglers and, thankfully, there was a marked improvement in the weather for this most recent qualifier with temperatures being much milder than in previous weeks.

Garbolino's Richie Hull finished in second place from Peg 21 on Little Geary's. Richie also fished pole and pellet shallow, to end the match with a greater number of fish than Pete, but of a much smaller stamp. Despite missing out on a place in the Grand Final, Richie booked his place in the 2013 Maver British Pole Championships.

Third place on the day, and also booking a place in the British Pole Championships was Rob Wright, who returned a weight of 66-15-00 from Peg 31 on Geary's. Rob fished a Method feeder at long range over to the island with dead reds on the hook to take carp into double figures.

Lee Farmer finished in fourth place with 66-04-00 from Peg 28 on Little Geary's. Lee caught well on pole and pellet fished shallow before switching to the margins late on to take big F1s on a soft hook pellet.

Pole Fishing's Jon Arthur took the last of the remaining British Pole Championship places thanks to a lake win on Molands from Peg 57 with a weight of 59-11-00. Jon opted to fish the pellet feeder before switching to the pole late on to finish strong ahead of Steve Daley.
