Bud Crowned Champion

Buchwalder crowned Drennan King.
Michael Buchwalder has been crowned the 2013 Drennan Knockout Cup Champion, after putting in another exceptional angling performance at Docklow Pools in Herefordshire, leaving Lee Kerry as this year's runner-up.

The Milton Keynes-based kitchen fitter, and Preston Innovations-backed rod, extended his lead of 65lb from yesterday, by winning the second leg of the contest with a 78lb 9oz net, made up predominantly of silver fish. This gave Michael a total cumulative weight of 219-10-0 to Lee's 125-1-0. The result effectively meant that Michael would have taken home the £5,000 winner's cheque without even fishing the second day!

Match Fishing Editor, Alex Bones said: "I was delighted to see Michael crowned a worthy champion. He is a fantastic angler, and a great guy – and I know just how much the win means to him.

"Lee was very unlucky to have fallen so far behind on day one, and after a tough match today, it soon became apparent that things just weren't going his way. Still to finish second in a prestigious event like the Drennan is a big achievement in itself.

"On behalf of the Match Fishing team, I would like to say a big thank you to the sponsors Drennan, and to Docklow Pools for once again hosting this prestigious event."
