Bud Storms A Lead

Buchwalder leads the Drennan by 65lb.
Michael Buchwalder has given himself an outstanding chance of being crowned the 2013 Drennan Knockout Cup champion, after winning the first day with a weight of 141-1-0. Lee Kerry finished with 75-14-0, giving Michael a lead of 65-2-0.

After a slow start fishing in open water, Michael found a succession of fish down the edge, fishing worm and corn on the hook, and feeding casters and corn. With several double-figure fish included in his haul, it didn't take Michael long to compile a significant lead over his rival.

With bites on his long-pole shallow line slowing up, Lee had no option but to try his margins, but sadly the fish didn't show up. At the end of the match, he was quick to congratulate Michael, but knows he has some way to go to pull back the lead tomorrow.

Match Fishing Editor, Alex Bones said: "Michael had his tactics and feeding just right today, and fished a brilliant match. Lee now has something of a mountain to climb if he is to become champion."

The second day of the event takes place tomorrow, with the overall result being decided on cumulative weight. Regular updates will be posted on the Match Fishing website from 11am.
