Last Saturday, 17th August proved to be a very successful day for Barnsley & District at the inaugral Angling Trust Team Commercial Stillwater Championship. Their ten man team came out on top finishing in Championship position with a fantastic cumulative weight of 428.365 kg. Barnsley fielded a young team, with six of their ten men being under the ge of 30, and local knowledge and experience of the venues used paid off.
The Team Stillwater Championship was split over three Fisheries, Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, Hayfield Lakes and Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery, with the overall result being decided on cumulative weight.Methods and tactics varied on the day over the three venues with most anglers feeding half way out, then changing tactics to feed into the margins when the catches slowed down.
In runner up position was Matrix Dynamite Trentmen with 360.295 kg, and in third place was Garbolino Lindholme B Team with 352.745 kg.
In the individual results Barnsley & District were still recording medal place finishes with James Dent taking the gold medal with a brilliant haul of carp of 96.900 kg from Hallcroft Fishery from an end peg on Moat pool. James fished with corn and pellet at 5 metres then changed to corn and pellet at 13 metres in front of him. He then started feeding groundbait and dead maggots down the margins to continue to catch to the end of the match.
In second place drawn at Garbolino Lindholme Lakes was Mark Taylor of Shakespeare Superteam recording a weight of 76.060 kg from peg G2, with another Barnsley squad member, Andy Geldart finishing in third place recording 71.400 kg on the scales from peg F9.
