Drennan Knockout Cup Final – Day Two

The heat is on for Power and Vallance…

After a superb battle between this year’s four finalists, Rob Wootton, Gary Miller, Andy Power and Geoff Vallance, there were always going to be just two who would progress to day two of this final. The weigh in saw Gary and Rob fall short, leaving Andy and Geoff to battle it out today.

Yesterday’s event was held on the Match Pool, but in keeping with the last couple of year’s format, day two takes place on Mickey Mouse Pool, which is home to chub carp, roach, barbell and plenty of other species. It’s a super-exciting lake to fish and one that really offers a unique day’s fishing.

However, we’ve altered the pegs for this year, opting for 8 (which has been used in previous finals) and peg 20 next to the bridge on the opposite bank.

Geoff is on peg 8, which is noted for its resident chub and silver fish stocks thanks in part to an incoming spring, leaving Andy on peg 20. Andy’s peg is something of an unknown quantity having never featured in this final before. However, it offers a super margin as the lake cuts through to the Moby Dick Lake behind opening up a haven of a channel for patrolling fish that Andy is clearly hoping to exploit.

It’s fair to say that Geoff’s peg is a ‘safer’ bet, but Andy’s is likely to throw up more carp.

Just as we found yesterday we wouldn't like to say who the winner is likely to be.

As usual the weather has dished up a bit of a curve ball in the shape of high winds and some patchy rain making long pole presentation difficult. However, with waggler, bomb, short pole and margins all sure to play a part it really is anyone’s guess as to how the match is going to play out. And, that’s exactly how we wanted it!

We’ll keep you posted later on, but you can read the full story, along with exclusive interviews with the anglers, in the December issue of Match Fishing magazine.
