Taunton & Bridgewater Canal (Durston) | Number of anglers: 21
12/02/2012

Report:
Twelve Exeter members travelled to Taunton on Sunday for an interclub competition on the Taunton and Bridgewater Canal. The weather was forecast to be kinder than it had been during the week but everyone found ice in their margins when they arrived at their peg. Three sections of 7 were pegged at Durston village the day before and despite being gin clear plenty of fish were spotted so a good match was expected. And so it was with most of the field having plenty of bites and an enjoyable days fishing on the bread punch. Due to the crystal clear conditions long lined rigs on the whip or pole were the most successful methods.

Winner on the day was Paul Elworthy (Team ALS) fishing for Exeter he used a delicate waggler for the whole 5 hours and caugh quality fish and regularly for a total of 7kg 600g. He found his most positive bites came when the tow picked up as the lockes had been opened and used a size 20 to 0.07 bottom. Paul Purchase from Taunton took second place with 4kg 220g caught using the whip and pole on breadpunch he also lost a tench. Exeter took third place with Dave Walton just 20 grams behing on 4kg 200g, he fished 5m to hand for most of the day and had some decent roach in his catch. Section A winner Eddie Evans 3kg 140g, Section B winner Andy Bulled 3kg 150g, C Section Kevin Williams 4kg 100g.

Exeter took the overall win with their anglers totalling 26k 800g compared to the Taunton total of 19k 720, an average of over 2kg per man was great winter fishing. Exeter will host Taunton for a return fixture later in the year at KiaOra.
