England Win Gold... Just

Drennan Team England take European gold in dramatic fashion!

Faced with an ultra-hard Hensies-Pommeroeul Canal, England were staring down the barrel with just 30 minutes remaining of Day Two.

Both Will Raison and Sean Ashby latched into a bream in the last half an hour, which catapulted them both up to third in section. This meant the team took the gold by a ‘comfortable’ margin of just one point ahead of a determined Russian team.

The fishing required ‘balls of steel’ as just one bream meant excellent points on a canal where the odd bream could only be backed up with tiny perch and bullheads.

The England team relied on slider tactics to conquer the canal, accurately firing balls of groundbait and soil at range around their floats. It was then a true test of bottle as with bites at a premium during the four hours a missed bite could prove costly.

Will Raison ran out as England’s top performer finishing in sixth place with five points.

Yet again though it was a show of true authority from the England team, who are also reigning World Champions. It was also the first gold for the three new recruits Callum Dicks, Simon Willsmore and Lee Kerry, which goes to prove the astonishing strength and depth of the England team.

With the 2014 World Championship held in Croatia this year, who would put it past England taking yet another gold?
