English Pairs Lead The Way

Big weights on day one of Irish Pairs extravaganza.
Francis McGoldrick and Dave Brettell got off to the best possible start in this years World Pairs Angling Challenge. Their combined weight of 46 kilos 540 grams (102lb) was enough to catapult them into the lead, behind Ireland regulars Kevin Rowles and Nigel Franks.

A total of 64 pairs lined the banks, in this, the second year of the big money event. With good weights of roach, hybrids and bream recorded throughout the waters used, anglers averaged well over five kilos a man.

Match winner on the day was Francis McGoldrick, with a 30 kilo 640g net of bream. With four days of the festival left, there is a long way to go before the winners are finally decided however.
