Ex Shakespeare Superteam Stalwart Tony Davis scored an impressive win from peg 42 with a weight of 9-4-0. Going into the last hour, Gloucester - rod Tony had just a few small fish and his hopes of any kind of comeback seemed dashed when he lost a serpent sized eel just as he was about to net it. His fortunes were set to change however as a switch from worm to maggot in the closing stages of the match produced a magnificent 8 -0-0 barbel that visited adjoining pegs before a grateful Tony finally netted it.
Back up weights were good too considering the low, clear state of the river. Tony Marshall continued his fine form with 8-2-0 of quality hemp roach from peg 10. Ian Ward secured 3rd from peg 63 mainly due to a monster 5lb plus tench which made up the bulk of his 6-13-0 net. Ray South fished a tidy waggler match and claimed 4th spot with 6-11-0 of small fish from fancied peg two. Ever consistent Steve Ashmore was 5th from peg seven with a mixed maggot and seed bag of 6-0-0.

Abu Garcia/Wychavon Championship qualifier | 24.07.2011 | 53 fished

After winning both matches on the opening weekend with big nets of chub, Shakespeare Superteam ace Tony Bench was banking on much of the same when he drew peg 29. After spending the early part of the match targeting gudgeon on a whip, Tony attacked mid river with his trademark waggler and caster approach. Much to his surprise, instead of finding chub he connected with a steady flow of quality roach to top the field with 9-8-0. Team colleague Rich Reynolds was close behind from peg 49, netting 9-3-0 of red fins on the long pole with hemp seed. Sensas A4’s Mark Bowerman was another to return to form, taking third place with 7-6-0 from peg 63. Marks net was made up of a big tench and several smaller eels. Ever consistent local rod Rob South took 4th from peg 40 with 5-7-0, again netting a big tench.
