Fantastic Fens!

Another hectic weekends roach sport on Lincolnshire venue.
The Town Welland at Spalding was again on great form in this weekends match, with over 900lb of roach being put on the scales.  The 54 anglers averaged over 16lb a man, with 18 managing 20lb plus.

Conditions on the river were totally different from the week before, the colour had dropped out , and the river was at its lowest point for recent years, being barely two and a half feet deep, with a slight flow on it.

Rob Wootton won the round with 35lb 4oz, consisting of some 230 roach taken on bread punch at four and five metres.

He commented: “It was an awesome days fishing – one of my best ever – and it felt great to win a big match in such good company. I had a couple of good spells in the match where I was able to really plunder this fish, with plenty of dumpy fish coming to hand.”

Just 2lb behind was Martin Roper who again fished bread and weighed 33lb 4oz. Third with 30lb 12oz was river legend Wayne Swinscoe, who again used his loaf to do the damage. It was also Wayne, and his partner Chris Jenkinson who won the pairs on the day with a total weight of 57lb 6oz.
