Feva QT8 Rods

Choosing the right rod can be tricky and there are loads of factors to think about. The main point for most to consider before anything else is price – just how much do I want to spend? Well, this new QT8 range boasts loads of features and performance while also slotting nicely into the ‘affordable’ price bracket, as they retail between £69.99 and £115.

There are just three new rods from the brand at the time of writing this – a 10ft Pellet Waggler, an 8ft Mini Feeder and a 10ft Method Feeder model. These three rods alone should cover everything most anglers will need on today’s average commercial venues where a rod approach scores. Today I have come to the Glebe to test the rods and I’ve sat on Pool 3, which is home to plenty of carp. I’ve got all three rods with me but I fancy a pellet waggler session so I’ve rigged up the 10ft Pellet Waggler model with a nice reel that's loaded with 8lb line.

Straight away you can feel the rod has plenty of power through the middle, which is exactly the way Feva has designed it to be. These commercial carp are always getting bigger and bigger, so your rods and general tackle to cope needs to reflect that. Another benefit of the rod’s blank is that it allows for accurate casting. Because the blank has the power it means it is nice and responsive, which will absolutely help your casting accuracy and line pick-up, yet the rod still boasts a through action thanks to the multi layers of carbon that are angled in a certain way to deliver the right balance of power and fish-playing action. In fact Feva even says that this rod (in fact all three rods in this range) will handle reel lines up to 12lb. That should give you some idea of just how capable these rods are.

I’ve set up my favourite pellet waggler rig, which you can read all about in the previous issue of this magazine, and after just a few minutes of fishing I’m into my first carp of the day. The action of the rod certainly has the fish under control and you can see the action from the pictures. It is plenty powerful enough to cope with today’s demanding pellet waggler styles, that’s for sure. As with the other two feeder rods there’s a nice reel seat and handle design along with quality rings and plenty of features to deliver the sort of value you’d expect for the money. This waggler rod in particular is going to be ideal for big weights and venues where you need that extra power in the blank to get fish under control. I’ve certainly had no issues on this session taming the decent sized carp that we’ve been catching on 8mm pellets.

The two feeder rods come in two different models as I mentioned. For short work and small Method feeders the 8ft Mini Feeder is the go-to model in the Feva range. It comes supplied with two interchangeable tips and will suit loads of anglers for bomb work and short Method feeder work where you’re catching big fish and/or big weights, with recommended casting weights from 7g to 45g.

The 10ft Method Feeder rod is the longest feeder rod currently available from the brand and is the one to go for if you’re looking to fish that bit further. It’s a super-versatile tool that will cover you for most commercial fishing situations and comes supplied with three interchangeable tips. It’ll be great for traditional feeders as well as Methods and carries recommended casting weights from 20g to 60g!

What does Feva say?
“Pioneering design for modern commercial fishery anglers who need a rod that is both forgiving in action but super-strong. The ideal action required is soft enough to subdue carp while having the muscle to steer them to your net when required. The QT8 Quadtronic range are built using super-strength carbon layers which are angled to still allow the rod to be a soft through-action. This seamless action needs to be felt to be appreciated. Stiff enough for pin-point casting accuracy, yet strong and forgiving enough to subdue double figure carp.”

Feva is working on more rods for the range at the time of writing this, so expect to see more additions in the not too distant future. Great prices and packed with features to make your angling enjoyable – I mean, what’s not to like?
