Fry Smashes Larford Record

344lb net is new venue best.
Garbolino ace, Simon Fry has set a new record for Maver Larford Lakes, weighing in 344lb 11oz from the Match Lake on Sunday. He explained: “It was an unbelievable session. I could see a lot of fish moving in the margins of the lake, and so I fished there pretty much from start to finish. Interestingly, the fish that I could see moving tight in next to the bank were F1s, but the bigger carp were in around two feet of water. Meat was the best bait by far, and by Kinder potting in a small pot, then following it in with my hook bait, I found myself getting a bite almost straightaway. I did have a six-minute spell in the middle of the match where I didn’t have a fish, but I did manage to eat half a packet of Jaffa cakes in that time for sustenance,” Simon joked.

“Larford is a venue that I fish regularly, so to break the venue record means a lot. It really was a special day though – eight out of the 13 people in my section weighed in more than 150lb!”

Simon's achievement came as part of the two-day Maver Classic event, which was won by Paul Cook with a three-point score. Neil McKinnon won the second day of the event, with 220lb from the Match Lake.
