Grant Signs For Bmw
Car manufacturer backs top Halesowen rod.
Grant Albutt has signed a sponsorship agreement with Sytner Coventry BMW.
The deal, which sees Grant receive backing from the huge car firm, is centered around introducing BMW and its subsidiaries to the sport – and it all happened thanks to a chance conversation.
Grant said: “I’ve been a loyal customer of the Coventry branch and last time I was here I simply put the question of sponsorship to the sales representative. It was general sales manager Sharon Rickers who put the wheels in motion and an agreement was made to back me.”
Sharon added: “We are hugely excited to be supporting Grant, not only as a high-profile figure in the angling world but also as a well-respected and loyal customer of Sytner Coventry.”
The deal sees Grant able to introduce the giant brand to angling where there have already been discussions made to sponsor some of the sport’s biggest events. The 2013 UK Championship is one example where competitors will have the chance to win weekend experiences with a number of BMW’s most popular car models.
Ciara Phillips, BMW Sytner West Midlands marketing manager added: “We’re very proud as a company to sponsor Grant for what he’s achieved. While I’m not an angler, both myself and the Sytner group as a whole have huge respect for what he’s achieved.
“It’s not an avenue we have explored before, but it’s a great opportunity and one that we’ll be dedicating time to alongside Grant.
“Among other aspects his role is to maintain an affiliation between Sytner and angling where he’ll be involved with our internal and external promotions, including Twitter, and will be featuring on our website, too.
“Many of our customers are anglers and now we have the association with Grant we’re able to offer something unique, to that specific clientele, that others cannot.”
Grant is already one of match fishing’s biggest stars having made many of the sport’s big-money finals, and has scooped titles ranging from an Individual National win to the £25,000 Parkdean title over the last 18 years. His consistency in the sport, especially when it comes to big events, can be rivalled by few – a testimony to his dedication.
Everything seems to have fallen into place for the Bait-Tech, Van den Eynde and Mainline wholesaler recently, as England Feeder team manager Tommy Pickering announced his inclusion in his line-up for the 2013 Feeder World Championship in South Africa. Grant also signed a sponsorship deal with Matrix in March, having made the switch from Garbolino after being a loyal devotee for nine years.
Grant said: “I’m very proud to be called into the team – representing England at any level is amazing and, realistically, all of the things I have won don’t even come close to being selected!
“I’m looking forward to the World Championship on South Africa’s Bloemhof Dam – it really could be a match of a lifetime. People outside of the setup seem to treat the England Feeder team as second-rate, but does it matter what discipline it’s at? Just because it’s not the float team it doesn’t make it any less prestigious. I’m focused on the challenge and have my mind set on helping England return with the gold team medal – something that has so far evaded the squad.
“As for Matrix, it’s great to be involved alongside 2012 Fish ‘O’ Mania champion Warren Martin and 2012 Mega Match This champion Les Thompson! While Garbolino and I have shown unsurpassed loyalty to one another it was just my time to move on and I’m excited about being involved with an innovative, new company almost from their beginning.
“I remain on board with Bait-Tech too, who just seem to be going from strength to strength. Three sponsorship deals is enough for anyone to manage because there is a considerable return involved. I plan to maintain my consistency at the game while flying the flag for the companies I represent.
“I must also extend a huge thank you to Sandra Scotthorne, owner of clothing company Halkon Hunt, who has helped me design a vast range of clothing sporting the new sponsor’s logos.”
As well as scooping many of the sport’s biggest awards, it’s also Grant’s uncanny misfortune that has seen his recent exploits met with gasps of disbelief. There is not another angler who has secured as many second-prize awards in the sport’s biggest events. After missing out on the 2011 £50,000 Match This title because of one lost fish in the dying seconds of the match, he’s gone on to secure second places in two of this year’s Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifiers and third in another and has, so far, been denied a place in the £30,000 final to be held at Cudmore in mid July.
Regardless of the misfortune his consistency is astounding and having won the Match Fishing Cup (now Drennan Knockout) in 2008, the £25,000 Parkdean final in 2009, the UK Championships title in 2010 and assisted England Green to team gold at this year’s International Feeder friendly in Holland it’s clear that he’s just as good at winning too!
We’re certainly not betting against him reaching this year’s Fish ‘O’ Mania, Match This and Parkdean finals!
