Match Fishing’s Joe Carass has been on The Tunnel Barn Winter League this where he had to go to great lengths to secure a decent result for the team. Well it has been another tough weekend in the angling world and my Match Fishing Drawbags team only just kept in touch with the leading pack on the Tunnel Barn Farm winter league. Last weekend we had our first victory after finally having four decent draws after a procession of dross draws in the previous rounds. This weekend however saw the end of the mild weather and an appearance of minus temperatures that was sure to slow the angling down! This week we had an ok draw with Steve Ringer on New 17, Lee Kerry on Extension 17 and Jon Arthur on Club 5 which was a bit iffy.

EDAA Silverfish Open result from 22nd January, 2012. Goodiford Mill Match Lake, Cullompton, Devon | Number of anglers: 16Report: Sixteen Exeter members fished an open competition on the Match Lake at Goodiford Mill in Cullompton on Sunday the 22nd of January. With another club having booked pegs 1 through to 16 the match was fished from peg 18 through to 37 so everyone was curious to see how the second bay from 28 onwards would fish because it isn't normally used in competitions. During the match blustery winds made presentation and feeding hard again this week with the light quality very low seeing the bites was even more difficult.
Guest blogger, Craig Butterfield, reckons it's only a matter of time before the traditional Full English is replaced by protein shakes. . . Reading Jon Arthur’s latest blog on Pole Fishing's website has really got me thinking about big-money matches and their impact on our sport.
Joe Carass reminisces over an item of tackle that he has particularly fond memories of. After all of the notable press about Internet forums I was looking through them the other day a spotted an interesting topic of discussion titled: Favourite ever item of tackle, and it got me thinking. . .
This morning I had a lengthy chat with Wayne Swinscoe about his colossal 53lb of roach from the Town Welland and it got me thinking about the species in general. The lowest weight in his six peg section was 40lb – all roach and the average weight in the 38 peg match was 28lb. it was literally roach soup for the anglers on the match and was possibly the best roach match in this country ever. Interestingly though I asked Wayne whether the length had produced again this week, I was shocked when he said that all of the anglers had blanked! The venue had literally thousands of roach in it a week earlier and was devoid just seven days later.
