Maver and Bag 'em superstar, Jamie Hughes, reaches Maver Match This Final for the fourth year running!

One of the hottest days of the year greeted anglers for this year's Mega Match This qualifier at Boldings Pools, Bridgnorth. With temperatures approaching 25°C, anglers were aware before the match that the resident carp had started to spawn, but no-one could be sure how this would impact on the fishing. Thankfully, there were still plenty of carp willing to feed with the top four anglers all achieving 100lb plus catches.

Winner on the day, and making his way to another Mega Match This Final, was Maver's Jamie Hughes. Jamie drew Peg 24 on Oak. Opting to fish pellet and corn on the pole tight to the far bank, Jamie caught carp up to 8lb to end the match with 119-10-00. Jamie will now compete in his fourth Match This Final in as many years – the first angler to do so in the competition's history.

Former Match This finalist and Bait-Tech sponsored, Howard Kelly, finished close behind in second place. Drawing Peg 16 on Larch lake, Howard started his match fishing maggot shallow before switching to his inside line late on with corn to take bonus carp to 7lb for a final weight of 113-09-00. Howard qualifies for the 2014 British Pole Championships for his efforts.

Third place on the day went to young Jack O' Sullivan (OAC), who drew Peg 50 on Sycamore. Fishing pole and pellet / maggot shallow, Jack ended the match with 106-07-00.

Wayne Kearney (Tri-Cast) finished in fourth place from Peg 14 on Larch. Wayne started his match fishing up in the water before switching to his edge late on with corn to offer 106-02-00 to the scales.

Taking the last of the British Pole Championships places was Shane Rogers (OAC). Shane drew Peg 8 on Willows ending the day with 99lb exactly. Shane began his match fishing paste, but left feeding fish to try an alternate line after seeing a number of carp show by the outlet. Unfortunately for Shane, this move potentially cost him a match win and a place in the final!
