River Trent, Holme Marsh

A total of 66 die-hard Trent fans fished this sell out annual match on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Conditions were bright and breezy on a River Trent that was carrying a little bit of extra water but remained clear.

The famous Weirfield section provided the top 3 individual weights with fancied peg 6 coming out on top yet again.

Jeff Clark from Hatfield caught 24 bream on maggot and worm hook bait fished with a block-end feeder casting 60 yards for a convincing winning weight of 64lb 11oz.

Next door at peg 5 was Worksop’s Stuart Goulding, a regular ‘framer’ on this event with 14 bream weighing 48lb 3oz. He also cast the same distance with his open-end ground bait feeder with maggot and worm hook bait for the runner’s up position.

Third placed Dean Harris from Huddersfield completed the Weirfield hat-trick from adjoining Peg 4 taking 14 bream in quick succession on open end ground bait feeder with worm and corn hook bait.

Moving away from the Weirfield, Trent Stalwart Neil Campion from Newark used his vast experience and persevered all day to net 8 bream very late on for a fourth weight of 33lb 8oz from upstream peg 85 on open end feeder and worm hook bait.

In fifth position was king of the ‘wag and mag’ John Small from Lincoln. He produced an outstanding all roach catch of 23lb 8oz from peg 39 on waggler and bronze maggot.

Shaun Rampling from Langold finished in sixth place from peg 59 with a fine double figure barbel and a chub for 15lb 12oz taken on long range block-end feeder and caster hook bait.

The waters were kindly donated by Worksop and District AA and the pegging fees went to the Holme Church Charity Fund.

Special thanks go to Neil and Caroline at the Grey Horse Pub in Collingham who provided all the anglers with a superb pre-match breakfast and sandwiches after the match.
