Report: The first match of the 2012 NSWCARC league was fished in almost the same weather conditions as the last match of the 2011 league back in December. Thunder storms, heavy down pours of rain, then sunshine and a wind that kept changing direction every twenty minutes meant it was one of those days when the fish would not settle and feed on what is normally a big weight venue.
With 12 anglers fishing it was decided to also try out the bigger lake on the venue for one section of 6 anglers and the smaller lake for the other section of 6. The bigger lake had only ever been pleasure fished before today by a few so all that got drawn on there today were fishing the ‘unknown”. The overall top three weights all came of the small lake so with the new section being shallow and most struggling for bites it’s best maybe if it is kept as “unknown” for the matches from now on. The league points and pools were split evenly on both venues so at least it kept the moaners quiet. Even our lost Welsh wizard turned up today, drew the new section, fished in the rain (full match too), struggled for a few fish and no one heard him complain…..well I didn’t anyway as I drew on the small lake and was too far away to hear him…!
Howard Hill said he had forgotten his poles today and just set up one waggler rod for the day. Not having the distraction of trying different methods worked out good for him and he went on to win the overall today catching small to medium carp steady during the match for 36 kgs. Dara wished he had forgotten his poles too as he struggled to keep fish on the pole line and wasted too much time on it. He still managed 2nd overall switching between the waggler and pole for 31 kgs. John Davis seems to have put his turtle voodoo behind for the new year and was 3rd with 23 kgs. Steve Scott had top weight of the big lake section with 14 kgs and 4th overall
