Oldham On Top

Rotherham ace books place in Maver Match This Final.
Ex England International Andy Oldham has won a place in the Maver Match This Grand Final, after winning the qualifier at Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery. Andy drew Peg 13 on Moat Island and finished 30lb clear of the rest of the field. The Halkon-Hunt-backed ace alternated between pellet waggler, and pellet fished shallow on the pole at 13 metres to catch 20 carp up to 9lb for a final weight of 155-02-00.

This third and latest Mega Match This qualifier, hosted at Hallcroft, marked the venue's best attendance to date with 73 anglers turning out for Saturday morning's draw. Conditions on the day were a little unsettled to begin with, but as the day progressed, temperatures began to climb and so too did anglers' weights.

Second on the day, and qualifying for the Maver British Pole Championships, was Marukyu's Craig Jones. Craig drew Peg 25 on Moat Outer and also opted to fish shallow tactics. Presenting banded 6mm pellet on the hook while feeding 6mm pellet over the top, Craig caught carp up to 11lb finishing with a weight of 123-04-00.

Third place was taken by Andy Lakey (Dunlop Worksop). Andy drew Peg 67 on Moat Outer and ended the day with 114lb exactly. Andy caught the majority of his fish down the inside on paste and corn.

Leigh Hodgkinson finished in fourth place from Peg 2 on Canal lake. The Matrix Dynamite Trentman rod fished pole and pellet to present 111-06-00 to the scales, earning himself a place in the British Pole Championship.

Last of the British Pole Championship places was taken by Nick Speed (Shimano / Dynamite Baits). Nick fished meat from Peg 22 on Croft to weigh in 99-00-00.
