Perfect Pair!

Thorne glory for Wright and Gianoncelli!
Browning Hot Rods ace Rob Wright, and England Youth International Frankie Gianoncelli have won the Thorne Pairs League, after a close final round. The league, contested by 72 anglers on Stainforth and Keadby Canal is among the most prestigious in the country, with five times World Champion Alan Scotthorne, and current World Champion Sean Ashby among the competitors.

Frankie explained: “Rob and I are absolutely made up to have won a league as prestigious as this – I would definitely describe it as my biggest angling achievement, and proudest moment. As the final league table shows, the competition was extremely closely contested by some of the country’s best bloodworm and joker anglers.

Although I have been fishing the canal for years, Rob’s achievement is perhaps the most remarkable – he had only fished the canal once prior to the league starting, and really has taken to it like a duck to water!

The canal has fished brilliantly once again this year, and though it has been a little more patchy than in previous years, this has only served to make the league more interesting. We would like to extend a big thank you to league organiser, Mark SIlman –who has announced that he won’t be running the league next year. As everyone knows, Mark has worked tirelessly to get the league to what it is today, and we are all indebted to him for all his hard work.”

Runners up on the day were Lee Kerry and Steve Barraclough, with James Dent and Andy Geldart taking third.
