Perry Delgarno Memorial Match

Tough conditions but a big barbel wins the day with plenty of money raised for charity.

Perry Delgarno Charity Memorial Match
River Severn at Shrewsbury, County ground and quarry sections

36 anglers

A total of 36 of Perry’s friends lined the banks of the Severn to honor such a great loss to the match scene. In doing so the anglers raised £260, all of which will go to the Severn hospice in Shrewsbury where Perry spent his final weeks.

Fishing wise, a record low river level for this time of year reflected in the results.

In first place was midland matchman Terry Trueman who drew Quarry peg 62 and opted for a stick float approach three rods out. Feeding maggot and hemp and fishing red maggot on the hook Terry took small dace intermittently before hooking and landing a huge 11lb 2oz barbel which took his total to 13-12-0.
Terry also became the first winner of the new silver plate, donated by Total Angling of Shewsbury to be fished for annual in memory of Perry.

Second spot went to Upper Severn Angling’s Chris Holmes who drew on toilet peg 50 and decided to fish the pole at 14metres with a flat float and chopped worm attack. The reward was two good chub and some small perch to put 7lb 10oz on the scales.

Third place went to Birkenhead rod Ian Courtney, drawn on spinny peg 21. He fished stick float and maggot to end the day on 6lb.

Last frame spot went to Total Angling’s Tony Bouckley who drew above Ian on peg 20 and fished the stick for 4lb 10oz.
