Powers To The Final
Awesome Andy makes it three finals in three years.
Preston Innovations and Sonubaits-backed ace, Andy Powers has qualified for the Maver Match This Final for the third year on the trot, after winning the qualifier at Boldings Fishery in Shropshire. Andy is now the first angler to qualify for all of the Match This finals to date – a truly unbelievable achievement by the Somerset-based rod.
Andy drew Peg 28 on Chestnut and opted to fish caster shallow to catch F1s ranging between 1-3lb.
The 24-year-old explained: "It was a great feeling knowing that I had once again qualified for the final, I had a really enjoyable match. I started off fishing by the island, but as the session wore on I found my swim in the open water to be more productive. A lot of the fish I had were quite small, so I would estimate that I had around 100 fish for my 130lb weight."
The result comes on the back of a great run for Andy, who has also qualified for this year's Fish 'O' Mania Final. When asked about his success, Andy commented: "I have been lucky in a few matches this year, but I have had a lot of bad matches too. The truth of the matter is, I have been travelling miles to fish as many qualifiers as possible – giving myself the best possible chance of getting a good peg, and when I have finally had one I have managed to do enough to win.
"I am looking forward to the final, and will be putting the time in to give myself the best possible chance of winning for a second time!"
Matrix Dynamite Trentmen rod, Michael Elliott finished second on the day, after drawing Peg 32 on Beech Pool. Michael opted to fish with casters down the edge to catch mainly F1s as well as four bonus carp to 6lb for a final weigh of 90-07-00 to win the lake and book his place in the 2013 British Pole Championships.
Third place went to Andy Kyte (Maver / Sonubaits). Andy drew Peg 21 on Chestnut finishing the day with 88-15-00, also earning a place in the Maver British Pole Championships.
