Quarmby Is King
Southern ace bags prestigious Middy Trophy.
Andrew Quarmby has bagged the Middy Match Team Cup, and £500 in prize money after a close match at Sherwood Forest Fishery near Edwinstowe. The match, open only to Middy-sponsored anglers, was contested at Sherwood Forest Fishery and with £500 and the huge silver cup up for grabs all of the anglers were keen to win.
It was an incredibly close match and with the fancied pegs not producing as expected it threw the match wide open for anyone to win.
At the end of the five-hour contest, it was southern rod Andrew Quarmby who came out on top with a weight of 133lb 3oz. Fishing shallow at 16 metres on pellet, he banked fish to double figures to take the title ahead of second-place Pete Upperton. Pete fell just short with a catch of 118lb 6oz all taken on meat on the deck at 14.5 metres.
Ben Fisk had a slow start to the match with very little to show for his efforts. After two hours, he switched to a pole shallow approach, which saw him have a brilliant last three hours to take third spot with 103lb 8oz.
Result:
1st Andrew Quarmby 133lb 3oz
2nd Pete Upperton 118lb 6oz
3rd Ben Fisk 103lb 8oz
