Rodger Romps To Victory
Close match sees UK Champ take the win.
Competition was tight on the first ever sell-out Maver 'Match This' qualifier at Peterborough's Decoy Lakes, with over 15 anglers returning weights of 100lb or more!
The winner on the day was the current UK Champion, Middy and Bag'Em Matchbaits rod, Marc Rodger. Marc, who is no stranger to fishing in a 'Match This' final, having qualified previously in 2011, drew Peg 23 on Beastie lake. The Grimsby rod fished a Method feeder before switching to pellet shallow later in the day to end the match with 157-03-00, putting just over 10lb between him and second-placed Martin Freeman.
Marc now has a second opportunity to win match fishing's richest prize and joins last week's qualifier, James Dent, as the second angler from a previous 'Match This' final to qualify for this year's final.
Martin Freeman (Marukyu) narrowly missed out on a place in the final finishing the match with 147-01-00 from Peg 16 on Yew Lake. Martin opted to fish expander pellet on the deck to win his lake. Martin's second-place finish on the day sees him through to the 2013 Maver British Pole Championships.
Third on the day was Garbolino's Jason Le Bosquet. Jason drew Peg 22 on Beastie and fished worm and caster both on the deck and shallow to end the match with 146lb exactly and a place in the British Pole Championships.
Fourth place was shared between Pole Fishing's Jon Arthur and Lance Chambers. Jon drew Peg 4 on Beastie, whereas Lance found himself on Peg 12 on Yew. Both presented 144-10-00 to the scales. However, with Jon having already secured a place in this year's British Pole Champs from the 'Match This' qualifier held at Packington Fisheries, Lance secures his place instead.
John Whincup (Bait Tech) finished in fifth place returning a weight of 132-15-00, winning his lake on Willows and will now also feature in this year's British Pole Championship final at Larford Lakes.
