Shipp Banks 446lb

Preston ace nets new personal best.
England International Des Shipp has smashed his personal-best match weight, after breaking the venue record at Ridgeway Lake in the Cotswold Water Park.

The Preston Innovations and Sonubaits-backed rod put together a 446lb winning net, comprising of 80 carp taken on pole tactics, and smashed his previous personal-best match weight by 139lb.

He explained: "It was one of those days when everything just went right. I could see a lot of fish moving past the end of my pole, so I fished shallow with meat, with a 3ft length of line between my pole tip and float to avoid spooking them. Sometimes, I would literally flick my rig in front of a cruising fish and it would have it straightaway!

"I loosefed 6mm pellets to keep the fish interested, and caught a fish almost every put-in for the duration of the day. I have been field testing some of Preston's new Dura Hollo elastic, and on this particular day I used the No14 Hollo, which is purple in colour, and in my opinion absolutely perfect for bagging work such as this! Other terminal tackle included 0.17mm Reflo Power main line to a 0.15mm hooklength of the same. Hook choice was a Preston 456 in a size 14, with a dumpy 4x10 PB Carp 4 float showing up bites brilliantly."

Des' previous personal-best match weight stands at 307lb, from Cornwall's Bolingey Lake, where he is also the venue record holder.
