Suzi Smith Breaks Barston Record... Again!

The Barston record has fallen once again and yet again it is Suzi Smith who has done it!

Recording a colossal 194lb, which beat her previous record by almost 30lb, the catch was taken on paste fished in the margins of Peg 30.

Venue owner Nigel Harrhy had this to say on the catch: “Suzi is extremely difficult to beat at Barston and it's no surprise that she keeps breaking the venue record! How she fishes is a bit of a mystery to all who fish here, but it doesn’t matter if it is winter or summer, she does the damage!

“It is also pleasing to see the lake producing great weights such as this. We had a tough time several years ago when the lake was really starting to reach its peak. Sadly we caught the dreaded KHV and that really hampered our progress. We are now a few years on from that and the lake is now fishing better than ever. The decision to stock with F1s was a great one and these fish now average 3lb, the skimmers are also big now and weights are being caught all over the lake. But thankfully our carp stocks are getting back to where I would like them. I take a lot of pride in breeding and rearing my own stock of carp – I was largely self taught, but my stock are becoming magnificent fish.

“Barston is such a big lake that we need to keep introducing fish to keep the fishing as good as it can be. We have quite a unique situation here as we appeal to both match and carp anglers, which is not an easy task!

“With the opening of Daisy’s and Jake’s lakes, along with our established Match Pool, we now can cater for anglers who also prefer smaller lakes. The future is very bright for Barston and it's nice to see our hard work paying off!”

The weight was caught during one of the popular Monday afternoon matches. These run all summer, with the draw being held at 12.30pm in the clubhouse.
