Tragic Loss

Angler dies after nightclub disturbance
White Acres stalwart Mick Kearns has died following a disturbance outside a nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning. The tragedy happened as Mick, 49, and other festival goers were out celebrating the end of White Acres Milo Festival at Newquay's Sailors nightclub.

Initially, four security staff employed by the club were arrested on suspicion of murder, but they have since been released.

In a statement issued yesterday, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Following an assessment of the circumstances, this is now not a murder enquiry.

"The investigation in to the circumstances leading to the death of the man will continue and will be conducted by officers from our Major Crime Team."

Tributes from the angling world have been pouring in for Mick, who was a keen match angler, and owned several caravans at the White Acres complex.

Fellow angler and close friend, Stewart Lister said: “I was deeply shocked and saddened when I heard the news. Mick was a genuinely nice bloke, a man who would do anything for anybody. He will be very sorely missed by all who knew him.”
