Kennet and Avon Canal at Great Bedwyn

20/11/11 | Number of pegs: 45

Due to a broken lock at Crofton there have been no boat movements on the Kennet and Avon Canal around Great Bedwyn and consequently the Canal was still and clear, which put the normally prolific roach off the feed. Luckily this part of the canal is also hung with big perch and skimmers and this was what made up the majority of the winning nets, of which the top 7 all had double figures!

Coming out on top was, Devizes Match group Angler, Dave Clapton who drew the end peg to the turning bay at the wharf section and capitalised with a bit of skimmer fishing. Landing 19lb 2oz 8drms of skimmers between 4oz and 2lb as well as a few big perch to 2lb and a smattering of roach. Dave caught on the pole over groundbait at 11m and 14.5m on Red Maggots and double pinkie.

On the other end of the Wharf next to the lock was second placed Richard Chave of Garbolino Blackmore Vale, Rich had 4 big perch, and 2 1.5lb skimmers on chopped worm along with 11 roach on squatt.

Third Placed Adrian McTiffen of Devizes Match Group was also in middle the wharf section and again featured big bonus fish in his net, this time 3 perch around the 2lb mark, caught down the track on chopped worm along with smaller samples and roach, Adrian was about half a perch behind second place with 13lb 4oz.

Breaking up the domination of the Wharf was Fourth placed Gary Williamson of Devizes match group who weighed 11lb 8oz from the Crofton Pumper section. Gary caught bream and Perch on the pole on red maggot
