Chris Vandervleit books a place in the £50K Match This Final

Ninety-seven tickets were sold for Sunday’s Mega Match. This qualifier at Barston Lakes, Solihull. Conditions on the day were pleasant with plenty of sunshine and a decent ripple with anglers spread across the main lake. Anglers were a little unsure as to how the qualifier would fish, given how soon the qualifier took place after the latest British Carp Championship semi-final. However, that said, over 100lb was still needed in order to qualify for the Match This final.

Winner on the day was Drennan's Chris Vandervleit, who has a superb record at the venue. Chris drew Peg 118 and opted to fish a white 8mm boilie on the hook with pellets in a PVA bag to catch quality carp. Chris ended the match with 116-10-0, thus qualifying for the August final and the Maver British Pole Championships.

Finishing close behind Chris was venue expert, James Hawkins. James, who qualified for the very first Mega Match This final from Barston Lakes in 2011, drew Peg 21 and opted to fish the Method feeder long at 70 yards to end the day with 109-05-0. James also qualifies for the British Pole Championships taking place later this month.

Third placed Dave McManus drew Peg 110. Fishing the Method feeder long to the island, David offered 85-04-00 to the scales.

Robert Jones finished in fourth place, weighing in 76-09-00, thus also qualifying for the British Pole Championship final.

The final British Pole Championship qualification place was taken by Tim Bull. Tim drew Peg 50 and also opted to fish the Method feeder long to end the match with 73-04-00.
