Wootton Does The Treble

Drennan Cup Champ wins Ivan Marks memorial with 238lb haul.
Shimano and Dynamite Baits-backed angling consultant Rob Wootton has won the Ivan Marks memorial weekend, with a 238lb haul of carp.

The catch marks the third time that Rob has won the prestigious trophy, with all three winning weights being in excess of 200lb.

Rob explained: “Of all the matches that I fish in the course of a year, the Ivan Marks Memorial means a lot to me – not just because it is a prestigious event to win, but also because I knew Ivan, and he was a great inspiration to me. Being brought up around the Leicester area, I grew up listening to stories of Ivan’s successes, and when I finally got to meet the great man he was every bit as inspiring as he sounded.

"In yesterday's match, I was lucky enough to draw Peg 47 on Uglies Pool. Although it is not a natural fish-holding area, a lot of fish patrol the boards on this peg, so I was confident of snaring a few. I fished 17.5 metres of pole, with a long line rig, which allowed me to swing a bait up to the boards, and drop it on the noses of patrolling fish.

"Feeding and fishing 6mm and 8mm pellets, I caught 27 carp to 12lb for a total weight of 238lb. To be honest, I have been having a bit of a bad run with my fishing over the last few weeks, so hopefully this is the start of better things to come!”
