Wootton & Wakelin Win World Pairs

World Pairs triumph for England feeder team duo.

Week-long leaders Rob Wootton and Adam Wakelin held onto their lead to become 2014 world Pairs Champions.

After setting a superb pace earlier in the week, Adam and Rob only had to keep catching to take the glory, and that they did.

Weights dropped off for the pair later in the week with Rob suffering some poorer draws, while Adam kept chugging along to take the Daiwa Individual Cup.

We caught up with Rob to find out more: “The fishing was great for us through the week and we drew the right areas at the right times which was very important when on a weight competition. But having spent a lot of our year out in Ireland we were fairly in-tune with the fishing and it allowed us to make the most of our favourable draws. We caught on a mix of tactics throughout the week with both the long pole and feeder playing a big part in our plan.

“All in all we won about £10,000 from the week which was obviously very nice, but we are also extremely proud to win the event as it is arguably the most prestigious event in Ireland now.

“To be honest, I can’t wait to get back!”

Hanging onto second spot were the Ringer brothers who suffered a few poor draws throughout the week but nevertheless took advantage of some good pegs to take second for the second year in a row.
