Doppelganger

Bizarre twist of fate leads to freak match result.
To win two matches at the same venue in successive days, is an achievement for any angler. For the same five anglers to occupy the same five places at the same venue two days on the trot is nothing short of remarkable - but this is what happened on the JCB Charity Classic, at JCB Lakes near Uttoxeter on a recent charity festival..

The winner was top Midlands commercial ace, Chris Hill, who drew the same peg both days, banking 120-0-0 on day one and 260-0-0 on day two. Nev Bailey, Ian Harnett, Steve Conway and Rob Danski took the next three spots, in the same order.

Steve Conway finished fourth on both matches, and explained: “I compete in a two day charity event at JCB Lakes near Uttoxeter every year, and its always a great event - this year we raised over £600 for charity. The format of the event sees  anglers draw on one bank of the complex on one day, then swap on the second day. It wasn't until the result was called out that I realised that the same anglers had finished in the same order.

A further twist in the tale was that there was one more peg on one bank than the other, meaning one angler got to fish the same bank both days. As sods law would have it the first day winner, Chris Hill, drew the same peg out of the bag that he had won off the previous day! “
