MPs’ rocket to water companies over sex changing chemicals in rivers. The Angling Trust today has backed a hard-hitting report by a powerful group of MPs which urged water companies to remove gender-bending chemicals from waste water before they get into rivers. Angling Trust Chief Executive, Mark Lloyd said: “I am delighted that this all-party Select Committee backs what the Trust has been calling for over the past few years. “There is mounting evidence that these endocrine disruptor chemicals make fish change sex, can poison aquatic organisms and damage ecosystems.
Evesham cancellation sees qualifier spot come free. Due to a last-minute cancellation, a place is available in this weekend's Match Fishing Team Championship qualifier on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham. Taking place this Sunday, June 30th, the match will see two teams qualify for the prestigious Match Fishing Team Championship that takes place on the Bank Holiday Monday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. This match is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the calendar, with 12 of the country's top teams invited – and a further two teams qualifying on Sunday's match.

Fishing from Peg 17, Tony took the first of his fish around halfway
through the match, with his second following in the dying stages of the
competition. Tony cast around halfway across the river, fishing double
bronze maggot on the hook.
Silver bream seal victory for Welsh International. Former Shakespeare Champion Andrew Murphy took the honours in the second Shakespeare Championship qualifying match of the year on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham, with a 20lb 2oz net of silver bream from the newly created Peg 87. Andrew, or ‘Spud’ as he is affectionately known to many, caught his fish on the waggler – feeding sparsely with bronze maggots and fishing a single bronze maggot on the hook. He ended the match with around 25 silver bream, and a good perch to take victory with over 1lb to spare.
Broughton thinks a closed season review is unlikely. Experienced fisheries management consultant Dr Bruno Broughton has added his opinion to the ongoing close-season debate. An expert in his field, Bruno is familiar with most of the arguments for and against a coarse fish close season. He explained: “The 93-day closure on rivers is an approximation to cover the span of breeding times for most coarse fish in most years, from early spawners (such as pike) to late spawners (notably tench and carp).
Judge gives 72-year-old a seven-day sentence. A 72-year-old fisherman from Fish Hook in Minnesota, USA, has been sentenced to a week in prison, after being convicted of defrauding the organisers of a £6,000 angling contest. Tom Mead won the bounty, after sneaking two fish from a different lake into his boat, then weighing them in and attempting to claim the prize. Fortunately, Meads actions were observed – and he was swiftly brought to justice.
