The Preston Pole Pairs qualifier fished at Tunnel Barn Farm on 26th November saw the top three pairs on the day progress through to the Grand Final at Woodland View. The match turned out to be a bitter sweet affair for the Maver Gold Dynamite team. Fielding four pairs out of the twenty-four that fished, the team were hopeful of a good result and so it turned out to be with Luke Capewell (pictured above right) and Wayne Bailey (pictured above left) qualifying for the final. The pair finished in third place with a combined weight of 89lb 11oz.

Unbelievable Value! Tom Scholey gets on the bank with the Maver Oculus 999, a pole he believes sets a new standard in mid-range pole performance. To say that I was extremely impressed with this pole would be the king of all understatements. Value for money-wise, it is among the very best I have tested. Why? Because it is probably the only pole that I have tested in its price point that performs exceptionally well at its full length.

Take An Adventure! Match Fishing takes a look at Colmic’s latest range of feeder rods, designed to handle even the most brutal workouts…When it comes to long-range casting on open lakes or using heavy feeders on rivers such as the tidal Trent, specific gear up for the job is a must. This is where the Colmic Scrape Next Adventure rods come into play. The 90g 13ft, 120g 13ft and 120g 13ft 8in models are serious pieces of kit. These three rods are made to deal with the rigours of heavy feeder work on fast-flowing rivers, fishing and long-range casting, and the strain put on them within these disciplines of the sport.

Blink And You’ll Miss It! Match Fishing magazine’s chief sub editor David Haynes recounts a tale of loss, and rejoices at the return of a faithful friend. After doing this fishing stuff for a good many years you think you pretty much know what to do and what not to do, until something comes along and catches you out… In a match at the famous Glebe fishery recently I should have been prepared for the ferocity of some of the carp bites – I’ve seen the tip go round here a few times before, and I know that when they want the bait they take it… and how! I was fishing a bomb and pellet at a gentle lob’s distance, and having cast out and set the rod in the rest I turned round on my seatbox to reach something behind me. I wasn’t clipped up and the clutch on my Team Daiwa 3012D reel was set lightly, so I was a little confused by the splashy gurgling noise coming from where my rod had just been. Spinning round, I saw it bounce into the lake and motor off away from me.

Royal Bargains!Match Fishing takes a close look at Browning’s classy but affordable range of commercial rods, which are shockingly good value for money! While most tackle manufacturers are itching to put their flagship rod range in front of us, it was very refreshing indeed to get our hands on a very affordable collection from Browning in the way of the Commercial King rod range. This set of tools has been in the Browning stable since 2010, when Browning was one of the first companies to introduce short rods for commercial fisheries. Since then, the company has worked closely with its consultants to present the latest range of Commercial King rods, which hit our office this month! Magic Wands! The first rods on the feeder front are the Commercial King Wands, all being two-piece tools, with 0. 5oz, 1oz and 1.

Today I have been on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal in Thorne with members of the Facebook group Angling Info. I was asked by the admin team if I would do something slightly different for the guys rather than just a meetup and fish; I was asked to do a coaching session on the use of Bloodworm & Joker and for me, the Stainy is the only place to go to show it’s potential. An event on their page was created and people started booking on, on the day there were less than anticipated but to be honest that was always going to be the case due to cold weather overnight and the fact some are just unsure about using the bait as it’s unknown to many. I always look forward to fishing on here regardless of the time of year I wish I could justify fishing the winter leagues but having to work shifts limits the amount of matches I can fish.
