With Marukyu starting to take the bait market by storm, Joe Carass decided to take a look at one of its most popular products… krill!Marukyu is still a fairly new name on the UK bait market. The baits are clearly very good but, never one to follow fads, I must admit to being fairly sceptical about them at first. I mean, I have always been of the opinion that as long as the bait we use is fresh and good quality and the fish are in front of you, then you will catch them! My opinion has changed somewhat of late, however, after going on several features with Jamie Masson, and also noticing the continuing list of results that Andy Kinder has been getting. With both of these top anglers using Marukyu products I felt I really needed to take a closer look.

Report from the Sunderland FAC winter league match at Silksworth Lake, Sunderland. Silksworth Lake, Sunderland | 16/10/2011 | Number of pegs/anglers: 12Robbie Schindler won the match fishing pinkie on the pole at 10 metres and on the waggler feeding next to nothing. He ended his match with approximately 70 small roach and perch. Second placed Bob Nash had a net of roach and perch again on either feeder, pole or waggler, but using maggot.
Renowned for their quality, Tri-Cast rods are among some of the finest available. Editor Alex Bones takes a close look at three of their latest 14ft and 15ft models. Recognising the increase in demand for long float rods on river venues like the Avon, Severn, Trent and Wye, Rochdale-based Tri-Cast has had these three rods in development for just over 12 months. Designed primarily for stick float and waggler work on rivers, they are nothing short of a pleasure.

Hard going on Avon as winning weight doubles that of second place.
THURSDAY ‘KOBRA’ OPENDYNAMITE MAKINSOctober 13 2010Number of pegs: 25In spite of pleasant weather Avon Lake (Dynamite Makins) generally fished hard and although every competitor caught carp about a third did not bother to weigh in. Venue expert Charlie Shaw (Fishermanea Derby) on peg 3 caught carp from his margins early and on long pole late on, and kept the fish interested by alternating meat and corn to total 68-08 for a clear win. Runner up John Adamson (Kobra Feeders) on peg 9 landed just 6 carp on pole and pellet for 31-04, edging out ‘Mr consistent’ Dave Hicken (Disco) who landed 29-08 from peg 1 fishing corn in the margins.
Poor weights blamed on bad river conditions, but results were still close.
A worrying red tinge has returned to haunt the Severn once again which was thought to be part of the blame for the poor results last year and once again the weights were low. Top spot on the day went to Shrewsbury rod Guy Jones, drawn on county ground peg 25 he adopted a stickfloat approach two rods out, feeding and fishing bronze maggot on the hook he had two large perch and some bits for a 6-9-0 winning weight. Five pegs above the winner on spinny peg 20 was Total Angling’s Rob Brennan who decided on a groundbait and pole to hand attack which resulted in one good chub and some small dace to put 6-3-0 on the scales for second overall.
