England feeder team ace Tommy Pickering has proved just why he is regarded as one of the country’s best feeder anglers – after bagging a winning net in this weekends round of the Hayfield Pairs Series. The sixty peg event is contested by some of the north’s finest angling talents – including Alan Scotthorne, James Dent and current World Champion, Sean Ashby. The match win comes on the back of a string of good results at the venue – and Tommy puts them all down to the banjo feeder!He explained: “The banjo is perhaps a little underused by a lot of anglers –who prefer more conventional methods such as the Method feeder – but there are definitely times when the water is cold as it is at the moment when it is very difficult to beat.

After 10 hard-fought rounds, the Match Fishing Drawbags team of four has claimed the Tunnel Barn Farm Winter League Championship. Eighteen teams battled it out at the ever-reliable Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery in Warwickshire. The talented four-man team of Steve Ringer, Jon Arthur, Joe Carass and Paul Bick sealed victory by also winning the final round. They ended up with an impressive 555-point score, ahead of Barston on 516 points and Banbury Gunsmiths on 512 points.

Final round of pairs league yields more top roach weights. The final round of the Maver Bait Tech Pairs League has taken place on the River Glen and Town Welland in Spalding this weekend. With previous rounds making headlines due to massive nets of roach, expectations were high for another good match. For the first time in the series the organisers were able to use both the Town Welland and the River Glen and both venues fished really well.

Sammie Perkins storms Makins practice match with massive winter haul. After a four year leave of absence, Shimano and Dynamite Baits backed ace Sammie Perkins has returned to Makins Fishery in style, bagging a winning 97lb 12oz net of carp. The 22 year old England international took the haul from peg 15 on Snake Pool – one of the few pegs on the complex that she has never drawn before. Along with her dad, Mark Perkins, and uncle, Rob Perkins, Sammie was regarded as one of the anglers to beat at the Midlands commercial – and even had an ‘Embryo Club’ of celebrity anglers that she had beaten! After joining the England Ladies team, Sammie decided that she needed to broaden her horizons, focussing more on natural venues, and also trying here hand at big carp fishing –meaning she hadn’t visited the venue for the past four years.

It’s a number that could save your life. To many people, dialling 999 is the first thing that comes to mind when faced with an emergency or crisis. But what happens if you have little or no signal, or if you have to use somebody elses phone, where the keypad is locked, or without credit?A video is trending on YouTube explaining the merits of a different emergency number – 112. This has several advantages over the standard 999 number, in that it can be recognised in 70 Countries worldwide – and can often connect to an operator even when there is no signal on your network.

Matrix back Tidal Trent Festival. Following on from good turnouts on the river last year, River Trent match organiser, Alan Henry has announced that the Tidal Trent Festival will be running again in 2013. He explained “Sadly last year we had to call the festival off after the first day due to the river flooding, after what we now know to be one of the wettest years on record. Even with the river out of sorts though, we still had 45 anglers enter the Festival.
