New Veterans Championship Announced
Marukyu sponsor new national event.
Match Fishing and sister title Pole Fishing are to run a Veterans Championship in 2016.
The event – which has attracted sponsorship from bait giant Marukyu – will see four 90-peg qualifiers take place, one in the North East, one in the North West, one in the Midlands and one in the South.
Twenty anglers from each will qualify for a grand final, to be held at the picturesque Packington Somers Fishery in September next year.
Entry is open to anyone aged over 60 on the day of the final - August 12th, 2016.
Event organiser, Tom Scholey commented: "It is clear to see the veterans’ match fishing scene up and down the country is booming. With so many venues now holding veteran only matches, we felt a national veterans competiition would be a welcome addition to the calendar.
The most difficult problem we faced when working out the structure for this event was the age at which we consider someone becomes a Veteran! In the end we settled on 60, which is also the age the Angling Trust sets as the cut off for its Veterans National.
After discussing the idea with Marukyu, they agreed a generous sponsorship package - which will see every angler that makes it to the final walk away with a hamper of bait worth £30, and the winner take home a new pole!
There will also of course, be generous cash prizes for those who do well in the final (subject to entry) and optional superpools on the qualifiers, mneaning there is loads of money to win as well as some excellent bait prizes!
We are all really excited about the future of this event."
