Richie Rules

Drennan northwest star wins at Weston.
Drennan northwest angler Richie O Connor has won the Frankie Dorran memorial match fished at Shropshire-based fishery Weston Pools. The match was organised to remember local angler Frank Dorran who passed away earlier this year. Big Frank was a popular regular at the fishery and well known on the northwest match circuit. The day was a fitting tribute to Frank's memory and a 114 anglers in total turned out to pay their respects and raise money for a local cancer charity.

Richie O Connor was the eventual winner fishing on Weir Pool Peg 17. Richie used a caster-and-maggot approach to amass 105lb 3oz, seeing off his nearest rival on the same lake by over 30lb, taking better mirror carp and barbel to 2lb in the last hour. Richie easily won his drawn lake and after a lengthy weigh-in, the whole match.

Second-place Maver angler Martin Churchill fished the Belvedere on Peg 18 and caught better F1s and carp throughout the match to finish ahead of third-placed Drennan NW Andy Amos who drew well on Peg 2 Stretton and used his fishery knowledge to secure over 85lb just ounces short of second place.

All entered anglers enjoyed a hog roast after the match and a drink with Frank's wife and eldest son, who came along to present the prizes and trophy. The attendance was overwhelming with everyone there to pay tribute to a great angler and friend.

Weston is planning to make the day an annual event to help raise money for local causes and remember fallen friends. The fishery owners and staff would like to thank all that attended the day and made it so memorable. Full results will be posted on the fishery Facebook page later this week.
