Nytro Marvelist Power Feeder Rods & Reels

So, you’re after some rods and reels for fishing the feeder at longer range. You don’t want to break the bank, but you still want premium features? Well then… maybe you should have a look at the 12ft and 13ft TPS Marvelist Power Feeder rods from Nytro.

The market is awash with options when it comes to rods and reels. In order to grab any customer’s attention you need to be ticking all the boxes and that’s exactly what Nytro claims from these two TPS Power Feeder models. There are a number of different rods under the Marvelist banner, some of which I’ve already tested in previous issues of this magazine.

These two new Power Feeder models are the latest addition to that range and, as the name suggests, have been exclusively designed in conjunction with Tom Pickering for feeder work. These 12ft and 13ft models have been designed for ‘Power Feeder’ work, so that means they’re going to be ideal for longer range feeder applications as well as scenarios where you just need beefed up rods to cope with bigger fish and even running water conditions too. These are versatile tools with the 12ft model carrying a casting weight of 100g and the 13ft model boasting a 130g casting weight. This means the rods have plenty of power for whipping out those heavier Method feeders, just as we’re doing today at Barston Lakes. However, from testing them today the blanks are also plenty forgiving enough for catching smaller fish as well as bigger carp too.

Each of the rods comes supplied with three 2.5mm diameter carbon quivertips to give you that versatility. A range of tips is important so you can tailor the sensitivity to the situation. It’s all well and good being able to get the feeder out to the distance you need, but you also must be able to have the necessary sensitivity in the tips to be able to properly read what’s going on in your swim. The rods feature high modulus diamond carbon-curve blanks along with a locking reel handle, flat section on the rod handle and loads other useful features that make using these rods a pleasure.

The lightweight rings aid the overall weight loss and help to keep the performance and recovery of the 30T/40T blanks at an optimum level. I’ve enjoyed all of the Marvelist rods that I’ve tested so far and these two latest additions are sure to find favour with plenty of Nytro fans out there.

The session at Barston today then – well it is super-cold and the water is still hovering around just 3ºC! I’ve paired the rod with the matching Nytro Marvelist Power Feeder reel, which has plenty of cranking power (check out the specs below) and is the ideal match for these rods if you want to keep your setup all within the Nytro ecosystem. The reels are available in 4000, 5000 and 6000 sizes. I’ve loaded the spool with the Sublime main line in 0.18mm diameter because the thinner line helps you to cast further. I’ve paired this with a 10lb shockleader to take all the force of the cast and to prevent any breakages when you’re really winding the feeder up to punch it to the rod’s full potential. The fishing has been hard, but we’ve had a few, which has given us the perfect opportunity for an initial test with this rod and reel combo. I think it’s fair to say that anyone in the market for rods that’ll do this job should definitely have a waggle – you’re getting a lot of rod and a lot of features for your money here.

The prices are very appealing, with the rods carrying an SSP of £139.99 and £149.99 respectively and the reels coming in at between £109.95 to £129.99 depending on the size. Within their price range these are models that will certainly be attractive to plenty of anglers who are keen to add one or two more powerful feeder rods to their arsenal.
