The Angling Trust Daiwa Schools National Championship was held on Wednesday 20th July 2011 at Hallcroft Fisheries, Retford with 21 teams of five anglers per team taking part. Cool overcast conditions met the competitors at the draw. Fishing took place from 10.30am – 2.30pm with a lot of good catches on the pole with mainly maggot, pellet and worms, and catches being a lot higher than last year.  All the competitors had a really enjoyable day fishing and the rain kept at bay until after the presentations. A new trophy that was introduced this year was the Geoff Woodcock Memorial trophy presented to the highest placed girl in the competition.

Geoff was the Senior Coach of the former East Midlands region of the NFA and the Coach Educator of the ADB and the former NFA and in memorial of Geoff who sadly passed away last year, the East Midlands region donated this new trophy for the Schools National Championship. Geoff’s wife, Corinne and family were present to award this trophy to Courtney Hyde who also finished as 2nd place individual. Angling Trust would like to offer their thanks and appreciation to Stephen McCaveny and Daiwa for their continued support and generous sponsorship of prizes this year. Daiwa also provided their Consultant, Sandra Scotthorne who awarded all the prizes to the competitors.

Appreciation goes also to Terry Sears and all his staff at Hallcroft Fisheries for the use of their water and their support and help on the day.
