Just What I Want! Our features editor, Matt Godfrey, has been using Preston Innovations pole rollers for 12 months now… here’s what he makes of them! I have never been fussy about what kind of pole roller I use. In 2005 I bought one of the original green Preston Innovations V-Rollers, and guess what… it’s still in my carryall now! Preston still makes them too – the official product name is the Super Pro V Roller. It comes into play whenever I have a bit of awkward banking behind me, and need to get the pole high or over an obstacle. The legs that extend twice over allow me to make the roller five feet high.

Why Use Fluorocarbon? Have you ever tried fluorocarbon? If not, you may want to after reading Matt Godfrey’s opinion… I had a real love-hate relationship with fluorocarbon the first few times that I used it. I loved the concept of it, but hated tying it up… it was a nightmare! For those that don’t know, fluorocarbon is a material that is supposed to be invisible under water. Personally, I don’t think it is… I can still see it, so I’m sure the fish can too. I actually think they can sense line more than see it, as their eyes are on the sides and tops of their heads.

Pole Pot Perfection! Our editorial assistant Jake Fowles takes a close look at the impressive Grip-Flex Pro Pole Pots from Middy! Here at Match Fishing magazine we are continually impressed by the range of products that come out of the Middy factory and grace the shelves of tackle shops up and down the country. It is not always just the flashy range of poles, rods or other larger items that catch our eyes, either. Sometimes small items can be equally impressive, and that is certainly the case with the Grip-Flex Pro Pole Pots that Middy has unleashed on to the market. The Grip-Flex pots come in a two-pot package that features a unique press-flex base, allowing you to attach the pots to your top kits easily.

Matt Godfrey climbs on to a platform and barrow system that has caught his eye this month, the Rigger Plus! When this arrived in the office, I immediately set it up. I have actually seen plenty of these Rigger barrows and platforms out on the bank, but never given one a close inspection. The actual platform is fully capable of carrying all sizes of seatbox. I personally have a Rive Seatbox, one of the biggest on the market when fully opened up, and this sits on the Rigger Plus with ease.

Clever Compacta! Middy’s Compacta Method Mould makes easy work of loading the perfect Method feeder every time. As match anglers we are always looking for an edge, something to give us those extra few per cent between being an also-ran and getting results. This can be something obvious – choosing the best bait on a certain day, for example – but sometimes it is not quite as clear cut. More and more we hear top anglers highlighting the importance of efficiency and how this is often the most important edge.

Classy Performance… In Four Sizes! Match Fishing puts Browning’s latest reel under the knife. When buying a reel, the focus of many modern match anglers is to have something lightweight. Whether you’re casting a Method feeder to an island on your local commercial, or running a stick float down a river, the weight factor of a reel is very important. On picking up the Sphere MgTi from Browning, the first thing that you notice is just how lightweight this piece of kit is.
