Dorking Do It Again

Top team win Match This team champs.
Daiwa Dorking have won the second Mega 'Match This' Team Championship final. The match was contested by 22 of the country's best clubs, including national squads from England, Scotland and Wales.

Teams battled for top spot across both Match and Specimen lakes on a cumulative points score system, with cumulative weight coming into play in the event of a points tie. As with the 2013 Mega 'Match This' individual Grand Final the day before, the fishing was first class with some big weights being produced by both lakes.

Overall winners on the day were Daiwa Dorking, captained by Maver's Steve Mayo. The team, consisting of Paul Hiller, Paul Holland, Steve Mayo and Lee Edwards, recorded a 10-point score to win the day by a clear two-point margin. Section wins from Steve Mayo, who weighed in 24.140 kilos from Peg 22 on the Speci burr, and Lee Edwards, who recorded 39.900kg from Peg 56 from the Speci chalet bank, plus a third in section from Paul Holland helped the team to overall victory and receive the impressive winner's trophy and £3,000 prize.

Maver Elite finished runner's up for the second year running recording a 12-point score. An impressive lake win from Andy Kinder on Peg 87 on the Specimen lake coupled with a second in section from Paul Cook in a difficult section on the Speci burr and strong performances from Danny Bache and Ian Giddins saw the team finish just two points shy of the formidable Dorking side.

Third place overall had to be decided on weight with Maver Midlands, Preston Delcac and Matrix Dynamite Trentman all finishing on 15 points each. It was the Maver Midlands squad, captained by Wayne Mellings, who took the £1,000 third-place prize thanks to a cumulative weight of 129.700 kilos. A Match lake win from Jamie Hughes on Peg 28 contributed 61.940 kilos to the team's overall weight with Les Thompson securing fourth in section and Stuart Ballard and Wayne Mellings managing a fifth-place finish in section each.

Best individual weight on the day was taken by Maver Elite captain, Andy Kinder, with a 70.420 kilo catch from the Specimen lake. Jamie Hughes' 61.940 kilo lake-winning haul saw him finish second individually, followed by Kamasan Starlet rod, Ed Warren from Peg 30 on the Match grass bank with 47.160kg.

The event was another great success and added to an already momentous weekend in the UK match calendar.
