IMPAX Allrounder – Incredible Value! (Video)
Nytro certainly appears to be impressing with its extensive range! I’ve been out on the bank with a few of the latest releases recently and I must say, for the money, they really are great products indeed. Today I’m out testing the IMPAX Allrounder Series of rods, which is a range of feeder rods designed to do EXACTLY what it says. Whether you’re a hardened silver fish nut, whether you spend your time on natural venues for skimmers, roach and bream or on commercials for carp (or a mix of all of those), this range has you covered.
Nytro has designed this range with a one-rod-fits-all approach – so no matter what type of fishing you do you can pick these rods up and take them anywhere with you. The Allrounder range comprises six feeder rods – 8ft, 9ft, 10ft, 11ft, 12ft and a 13ft model – priced between just £39.99 and £59.99! Incredible value for money when you consider what you’re getting here. Each rod comes supplied with two 2.5mm carbon tips and the tip strength varies from 0.75oz to 2oz, depending on which of the six rods you choose.
Today I’m out with the 8ft and 10ft models and the first thing that strikes me is the quality finish and slimness of the blanks. These certainly don’t look or feel like sub-£50 rods at all! Nytro has fitted the rods out with lightweight Minima guides and you can really tell that they are making the difference here with the rod’s recovery and action. The handle is nicely sculptured, being crafted from a mix of cork and Duplon and the reel seat locks down super-securely to hold your reel firmly in place. There’s also a flat section on the handle that locks against your forearm to prevent the handle from slipping when you’re playing fish, along with some Nytro branding and features you'd expect only on more expensive rods.
We’ve come to Makin’s today on a freezing cold winter’s session so we know already that bites will be at a premium. I’ve chosen to fish on Lake 3 and I’ve set up the 10ft model to fish a tiny little Method feeder in the middle of the lake. At this time of the year you need to make every bite count and so landing every fish you hook is crucial – any rod plays a huge role in this so I’m keen to get a bend in the 10-footer – hopefully with a carp or two. I’m using softened fishery Micro pellets and a simple, micro wafter. Amazingly the rod goes around on the first cast after being in the water for 23 minutes! Carp number one strips some line and the 24T rod blank takes up a lovely curve. Action-wise the rod bends right through and is very progressive, but I’d also say that there’s some power in the middle should you need to cast further with this particular model. A 10ft feeder rod is always my go-to choice on commercials because it’s just so versatile. A nice mirror carp hits the net safely after a brilliant scrap in the freezing cold, clear water.
Second cast – nothing, the first one must have been a fluke, ha ha! Then on cast three, after waiting 20 minutes, the rod gets pulled around again with carp number two. This time it’s a fighting fit common that puts up a brilliant account of itself. The rod once again doing a superb job helping me to land the fish on small hooks. I’m using the lighter of the two tips that comes supplied with this rod – 0.75oz – simply because I want to see every indication on the tip to help me build up a picture of what’s happening out there in the lake. In the warmer months I’d use the other 1oz version that comes supplied as I wouldn’t need the tip to be quite as sensitive. All of the tips are also available separately too so you can really tailor each rod to be the way you want/need it for a specific scenario.
We manage a few F1s throughout the very short session, too. I think this is key because these rods are not solely designed just for carp. They’re designed to be perfect for all species to cover all venues and I think that is a huge strength of the Impax Allrounder range. And with six options to choose from there’s a rod to cover pretty much all main feeder fishing scenarios. I can certainly see why these rods will be incredibly appealing for the price. Very smart graphics, lovely actions, nice slim blanks, lightweight guides and packed full of loads of other features – they just have it all. Heck, you could even kit yourself out with the complete range for very sensible money indeed!
