Irish Pairs Delight
Duo win over £20,000 in prize money.
Cathal Hughes and Phillip Jackson have won the World Pairs Angling Championship for the second year running, after a close final-day battle.
The Daiwa and MatchCraft-backed duo recorded a combined total weight of 185.280kg, putting them over 17kg clear of runners-up Steve and Phil Ringer. Cathal also topped the individual Daiwa Cup league rankings, with Steve finishing in second place.
Cathal explained: "It has been an awesome week's fishing, with roach, skimmers and hybrids all feeding well. This year has been the best that I can remember for fishing all over Ireland, which bodes well for our competitions in years to come.
Tactics have varied through the week, with feeder, pole and pole-to-hand tactics all coming into play as the week has gone on.
Alongside the fishing, I have also really enjoyed meeting a lot of new faces, and the atmosphere has been brilliant for the duration of the week. All in all, it has been a fantastic experience!"
