Octbox MK25 Lithium Powered Barrow
Octbox offers some of the finest craftsmanship available when it comes to seatbox and barrow systems. It’s a complete ecosystem of functional and innovative metalware that is sure to help you along in your angling. Today we’re looking specifically at the main features and ‘upgrades’ to its MK25 Lithium powered barrow, which can be most easily summarised into 10 key points:
1. Variable Chassis
This allows the angler to adjust the length of the barrow and balance point to meet their needs. We all carry different amounts of gear and have different requirements once we set the seatbox up. Octbox’s variable chassis design allows you to completely tailor the system to your exact requirements. It’s also a crucial feature to help get that barrow perfectly balanced, so it isn’t too heavy towards either the front or the rear. Perfect balance not only makes it easier to move, but also makes it more forgiving on the motor and battery.
2. Adaptive Suspension
A very clever design that allows the barrow to be more stable when traversing sloping ground, while at the same time the adjustable shock absorbers act as buffers to protect the barrow system and reduce vibration. This all makes for a much slicker, much more professional system that is absolutely built to last and built to cope with pretty much any terrain you find yourself faced with.
3. High Torque Diffs
The drive wheels are fitted with high torque differentials that allow the inner wheel to travel at a slower speed than the outer wheel when making a tight turn. Exceptionally forward-thinking tech for a fishing barrow, you must admit.
4. Lithium Battery
The ultimate in power delivery. This system is powered by a 16AH lithium battery with quick release T-bar and three-year warranty. It easily detaches and reattaches from the framework in moments to make it as user-friendly as it possibly can be, along with delivering all the juice you could need to the high-performance motor.
5. Larger Drive Wheels
The 41cm diameter drive wheels give good ground clearance to ensure the barrow can tackle standing water and dense bankside vegetation. They are purposely manufactured to this spec to cope with mud, grass, puddles and the general tricky ground you can often be faced with when you’re getting all of your gear to your peg on natural venues. This makes those longer walks an absolute breeze.
6. High Performance Motor
Featuring a 200watt, 35amp high performance and robust 12V DC motor, which generates up to 50 per cent more torque than cheaper less powerful DC motors. This is a significant leap forward for the system and ensures there’s always ample power to travel with a full load. Incidentally the system will travel at up to 4mph.
7. Robust Control Circuit
A robust control circuit that is protected by a 35amp car fuse and can support motors up to 400watts. The on/off switch is fitted to the control box cover next to the battery. The handle is fitted with a forward and reverse switch and speed control. When set to reverse, the gearbox is engaged and acts like a brake when the speed dial is turned down. The gearbox is released to give free movement as the speed dial is turned up. As a safety feature, when in reverse mode the system would not have sufficient power to push someone over.
8. Quick Release And Space Saving
The power unit with quick release wheels and rear wheel kit can be removed from the main chassis. The main chassis can then be collapsed to 64cm x 60cm to give a system that will easily fit into the boot of a car.
9. Purchase Options
Available to purchase as a complete barrow or a powered wheel kit and rear wheel kit modular form to fit into sockets on any Octbox Seatbox with a footplate manufactured after 2012. Anglers that do buy the complete barrow do have the option (at a later date) to convert the barrow into a seatbox. The additional accessories required would be six D25mm inner legs, a drawer module and a padded seat.
10. Impressive Warranty
A three-year warranty – now that is amazing. If anything breaks in the first 12 months, Octbox will arrange collection, repair within two working days and return completely free of charge. After 12 months there is a flat rate fee of £40 charged that covers the courier costs to collect and redeliver and any parts and labour required to fix the fault.
