Starlets Struggle In Italy

England struggle in the World Club Championship.

The English representatives in the 2013 World Club Championship, Kamasan Starlets, have finished in a disappointing 17th place in the weekend’s event.

The two-day match was fished on the extremely difficult Brian Canal in Italy, a venue that saw the English side struggle to work out the methods needed. They weren’t alone, though, as even the home side, Trabucco Ravenelli, found the going tough with very few fish to be caught.

Much of the blame for the difficult fishing went to the canal being refurbished for the event, which saw the embankment relaid and also some work carried out on the canal bed. The home nation believed that this work, and lack of fishing leading up to the event, saw the fish migrate elsewhere, leaving only a few stragglers seeking refuge in the far-bank reeds. This, combined with the onset of spawning, led to a very difficult match where bonus catfish, carp and carrassio were needed for good points.

Eastern European teams continued their recent domination of international events by taking the top three places. Senta Maros Mix Tubertini from Serbia took the title with an impressive 39-point score over the two days, just fending off the challenge from the Sensas Pesnica Team Slovenia, who had a 41-point score. The final place on the podium went to the Hungarian Perfect Tima’r-Mix team with 51 points.

Daiwa Scotland were the best performers from the Home Nations with a respectable 12th-place finish. Ireland didn’t fare quite so well, finishing 22nd.
