Denis White wins with barbel. In what must rank as one of the closest finishes of any match this season, just a single ounce separated the top two in this years Veterans' Championship, and 13oz came between first place and third. Making the match even more interesting was the fact that each of the anglers in the top five boasted a barbel in their net, the biggest belonging to match winner, and Barnsley Blacks legend, Denis White. Drawn on Peg 30, Denis based his match around catching roach on hempseed, but when his plan didn't materialise, he knew he had to have a look for a bonus fish in the later stages of the day.

Drennan man tops new river festival. The inaugural Thames Festival was fished by 41 anglers on the Thames around Oxford between the 3rd and 5th of September . Despite the sweltering temperatures and the lack of flow the river fished exceptionally. The event was very successful and will definitely become a yearly event that will grow.

Evesham Festival Qualifying Match ReportThe River Avon was on top form for this Wednesday's Evesham Championship qualifier, providing very consistent sport right through the match length, as chub, perch and quality roach fed in numbers. The lowest section winning weight was 6-13-0, and one unlucky angler didn’t make the frame with a whopping 9-3-0!Top dog on the night was in form Worcester rod, James Wilson. James, who has already made headlines this year by qualifying for the £50,000+ Maver Match This Final, has now won a place in both the Evesham and Wychavon Finals to boot. The Alan’s Tackle-backed talent fished worm and maggot at seven metres, catching several small perch, before switching to a line fed with caster and groundbait at 16 metres, fooling chublets and quality roach for a 12lb winning total.

Fifth round of the Wye League The fifth round of the Wye League saw tricky conditions and some low weights as a result. The night before the match the river rose 8feet and as anglers reached their pegs the water in front of them was dropping and heavily coloured. The best weight on the day went to Wizrds team member Danny Baker who amassed 38lb 4oz from peg 39. This was over double the weight of the second placed Hady Whittle who weighed in 14lb 7oz from peg 76.
