Fishery open match results from the week beginning January 7. Tuesdays open contests have been changed to rover matches across all four lakes on the complex and it paid off for Marukyu backed Steve Lane. Steve opted for peg 7 on skylark and fed Marukyu 130 ground bait with 4 mm JPZ on the hook to take F1 s and skimmer bream for 52lb 10oz. Second place Steve Higginbottom selected peg 27 on skylark and had plenty of bits for his 45lb 80z total which included 73 of the new F1s.
Wychavon Championship Qualifier, 18/08/2013. With bloodworm banned for the last of the official 2013 festival
qualifiers, the fishing was tough for many. Gloucester Angling Centre’s
Tony Davis put in a star performance from unfancied peg 31, to win the
day with a 7-12-0 net. This was made up of a 6-8-0 barbel, and several
smaller roach taken on hempseed.

Tony Woodhouse victory in Sunday’s Wychavon Championship qualifier.
Fishing from Peg 17, Tony took the first of his fish around halfway
through the match, with his second following in the dying stages of the
competition. Tony cast around halfway across the river, fishing double
bronze maggot on the hook.
Foul hooked barbel brings big match glory.
For the first time this season, one of the River Avon’s legendary barbel accounted for most of the winning weight in an Evesham Festival qualifying match, as former Festival Champion Rob South banked an 8lb beast from peg 43. Fishing flatfloat and chopped worm tactics on the pole, Rob did well to land the fish, which he foul hooked in the fork of the tail! In addition to the barbel, the Birmingham rod had six good eels, also on flatfloat tactics for a final total weight of 12-1-0. Runner up was Leicester based rod, Pete Jayes, who caught on his favoured hemp tactics from peg 15 on the Crown Meadow.
